Livestream Recap
This week, we’ve been talking about going with what we have, and what this looked like for the father of the demon-possessed boy in Mark 9:21-24. Many of you have told us how the message impacted you, and how you related to a man from the scripture who believe, but lacked faith. How do you live life when your child is ill, and your faith is tested? How difficult an experience that must have been!
This passage of scripture comes on the tail end of a mountaintop-experience; Peter, James, and John had just come down from Jesus’ transfiguration on the mountain to find some of the disciples arguing with the scribes. The disciples had previously been sent out to heal the sick and cast out demons, but this time they’ve failed to do so. A man’s son had been possessed since childhood, and the demon would cause the boy to go into convulsions, stiffen up like a board, and would even throw him into fire and water!
The boy’s father had brought his son to Jesus, but He was on the mountaintop. Instead, His disciples, his representatives, receive the boy in His place. They had already been administering miracles and casting out demons, but this time, they weren’t able to. When Jesus arrives on the scene, the boy’s father says, “I believe, but help my unbelief.” He had just enough faith—sometimes all we need is just enough.
Maybe you didn’t feel like getting up this morning and going to work, dealing with a supervisor that’s been on your nerves, or helping your kids with school at home. Maybe you’re frustrated, tired, and feel like you don’t have enough—you’re in a place just like the boy’s father, where you’re uncertain if you have enough faith for this particular trial.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen. If you’re facing a trial or circumstance that seems like too much for you but have faith in the Lord, that’s all you need. Sometimes you have to go with what you’ve got. If you don’t have anything this morning but mustard seed faith, that’s enough!
We’ve loved hearing from you all this week. What circumstances are you facing? What’s that thing you have just a small amount of faith for? Let us know down in the comments so we can join you in faith.
