Election Day | Pastor Chat LIVE!
Livestream Recap
The 2020 Presidential election remains up for grabs. As individuals journey to the polls to cast their votes, we want to encourage everyone that as believers of Jesus Christ, no matter who wins the election not to pay so much attention to the television, but to watch the throne. God is still sovereign and supreme, and there is nothing we can do to thwart His plan.
Politics and political agendas can divide the body of Christ, as we’ve seen over the past four years. However, Christians can be political without being a jerk and can use politics to lovingly and charitably to promote the welfare of the community.
Titus 3:1-8 says, “Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, 2 to slander no one, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing every consideration for all people. 3 For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. 4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but in accordance with His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He richly poured out upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8 This statement is trustworthy; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and beneficial for people.”
Remember: we as the body of Christ are people that have been drawn together into the mission of Jesus Christ by the power and indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We should not be divide by red nor blue when the Holy Spirit has drawn and brought us together.
So then should Christians be political? Absolutely! Titus 3:2 tells us, “ to slander no one, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing every consideration for all people.” We are to be political by speaking evil of nobody. Whatever your opinion may be of anybody on the ballot, the Bible tells us that as believers of the Lord Jesus Christ we are to engage in politics with love.
We have been so out of order as Christians! So many of us have been out of order by the things we are saying and doing because they are not out of love. Christians have a duty to the government; to be subject to rulers and authorities. Subjection implies voluntary acceptance of the position of submission to those who rule over us as we read in Titus 3:1.
How then can then do we live out what Titus is teaching us in our current political environment? Whether it’s on social media or with our neighbors, the key is humility—will you walk in humility? We as believers should not be arrogant, pugnacious, nor violent; we pray against violence and such things in our country. Proverbs 25:26 says, “Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives away before the wicked.” Let’s not participate in wicked conversations nor civil unrest today. We all have our personal feelings, but filter these through the lens of Scripture and the Gospel.
Christians cannot stand by when they have the chance to right the wrongs in our country! There are so many ways beyond voting that was can participate; let us not just participate seasonally, but “profess to know God by our consistent deeds and not deny Him.”
Ladies and gentlemen, please do not allow politics to further divide the body of Christ. Be awakened and no longer allow us to be divided by any political coalition or colors, whether they be red, blue, black, or white.
